Nurse Aide Training Program

WEC-5531 - Prerequisite- Must meet pre-admission assessment requirements. This is a 130 hour program designed to prepare the learner for employment as a Certified Nurse Aide. The course includes basic information about the care of hospitalized patients and residents in a Skilled Nursing Facility. Topics covered include; responsibilities of the Nurse Aide, legal and ethical issues, patient's and resident's rights, medical terminology and basic anatomy and physiology. Skills taught range from bathing and bed-making to taking the temperature, pulse and respirations. Preventive care and safety in the home is emphasized. Physical exam, and proof of current immunizations required prior to 1st clinical date. Also, scrubs and white shoes required for clinical experience, but not provided. At the successful completion of the course students are qualified to take the NYS Certification Exam for Nurse Aide. For admission to the exam, you are required to present 2 forms of valid identification with your signature. The name on both identifications must be the same as the name used to register for the examination! One ID must contain both a current photo and signature, ie: Driver's License or passport. The 2nd ID must match the name on the picture ID and the name used when registering for the exam, ie: SS card, library card or credit card.
