Automotive Technology is the science of diagnosing, maintaining and repairing today’s modern automobiles. Students will learn to test, not guess, while utilizing up-to-date analysis equipment. Instruction will include diagnostic techniques, precision measurement, brake systems, ignition systems, exhaust systems, automotive computer scan tools, wheel alignment, fuel injector systems, electrical systems, transmissions, engines and more. Successful students will graduate with the skills, certifications and knowledge necessary to enter the work force, military, or continue their education at a post secondary institution.
Average pay scale: $8-22 per hour.
Students completing the Auto Body program will have the opportunity to become a competent, entry-level repair person in the auto body field. Students learn to safely and competently restore a vehicle to its original condition, repairing and correcting body deterioration caused by age or collision damage.
Students will continuously be developing skills that align with Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and Inter-Industry Conference in auto collision Repair (I-Car), which are nationally-recognized, professional organizations. Upon completion of the program, students will take a written and performance test developed by National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI).
Average pay scale: $10-18 per hour.
Students in the Building Trades/Construction program will have the opportunity to acquire skills in the safe operation of a variety of power and hand woodworking tools and machines, building site layout, various types of framing procedures and techniques, foundations and form, stair construction, window and door installation, thermal and moisture protection, siding application, roofing, interior finishing, basic wiring, plumbing, brick and block laying, blueprint reading and basic cabinet installation. This course encompasses all processes and degrees of house construction. Additionally, students may have the opportunity to assist in the construction of a full-size ranch-style house.
The Building Trades/Construction program is designated as a National Center for Construction, Education, and Research (NCCER) site. Students will be required to take nationally standardized exams in order to earn national certification in several NCCER topics of instruction.
Average pay scale: $8-10 per hour starting; up to $30 per hour with experience.
IC3 Certification, A+ Certification and CISCO Networking Certification
Students will learn to design, build, and maintain computer networks. The curriculum covers a broad range of topics, from basic networking skills, such as pulling cable, to more complex concepts, such as applying advanced troubleshooting tools. The program combines instructor-led, on-line learning with hands-on laboratory exercises, where students apply what they learn while working on actual networks.
Building upon fundamentals, the course will give students a working knowledge of modern network systems. They will work to a level of competency to challenge the CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and/or Network + exams.
Students will learn the basic concepts of computer systems and skills necessary for successful employment in the Information Technology industry. Basic computing and Internet literacy will be the focus of the beginning of the course. The remainder of the course will cover computer software and hardware architecture, with a concentration on troubleshooting, upgrades, and repair.
During the course, students will be provided with a foundation for achieving both IC3 and Comp TIA’s A+ computer certifications.
Average pay scale: $22,000-50,000 per year.
The 1,000-hour Cosmetology curriculum is designed to give students the skills needed for successful completion of the New York State licensing exams, as well as the skills necessary for employment.
Average pay scale: $7 per hour plus percentage of profit or straight commission.
The first four instructional units of Criminal Justice are designed to prepare the student with the basic theory in the Security or Law Enforcement fields. Patrol Function and Investigative Functions and Techniques are strong core programs, which provide for immediate employment.
The last four instructional units of Criminal Justice provide advanced study in patrol and investigation, plus additional supervisory and administrative theory. A work experience program will be incorporated that allows the student to work at a sheriff’s department, local police agency, county court or private security agency.
Average pay scale: $10-30 per hour.
The Culinary Arts program uses the Pro-Start curriculum, approved by the National Restaurant Association, which provides hands-on instruction. In addition to teaching the fundamentals of cooking and baking, restaurant management and customer service are emphasized. Students will develop an understanding of the historical background and themes of the Culinary Arts field.
Average pay scale: $7-13.25 per hour with certificate; $30,000-$60,000 with post-secondary training.
During the first year of this two-year program, students learn about gas engines and transition to basic diesel engines. The second year of the course concentrates on diesel engine operation and maintenance. Students also have the opportunity to work on large diesel engines such as farm and construction equipment. Curriculum includes engine systems, overhaul and diagnosis; tractor trailer engines, diesel and electric hydraulics, diesel fuel injectors and pumps and fuel systems.
Average pay scale: $7-12.50 per hour.
As a Dental Assisting student, you’ll gain the knowledge and practical skills necessary to assist a dentist in the examination and treatment of patients.
Course work includes dental anatomy, chairside assisting, charting teeth, tooth restoration, dental specialties, laboratory skills, office procedures and dental x-rays. You also will participate
in a clinical experience one day a week (with an option of a partial summer) in area dental offices. Upon successful completion
of the course and 200 hours of internship, you may sit for the New York State Dental Assisting Certification Exam.
Average pay scale: $9-$15 per hour.
The Digital Media Arts program is a unique technology-based program that prepares students for a career in today’s most dynamic and rapidly growing communications-related fields. The program features a digital design lab with the latest computer graphic technology and professional software, enabling students to gain the foundations of design and then apply their learned skills to many forms of hands-on, visual communications projects. The program blends traditional design principles, composition, color theory and typography, with advanced technical skills. Students have the opportunity to earn valuable, industry-recognized certifications, and may also earn advance placement credits at several area colleges as they enroll in computer graphics and design-related degree programs.
Average pay scale: $8-13 per hour.
The Health Occupations program is a New York State licensed program. It builds on a core program as an introduction to all health occupation careers. After successful completion, students may enter Nurse Assistant or Health-Related Child Care. Health Occupations II includes Health-Related Child Care and/or Health Assistant programs. Supervised clinical experience is included for all programs at various related sites, such as St. James Mercy Hospital, Mercy Care Health Care Facility, Head Start, St. James Day Care, Corning Hospital, Founder’s Pavilion, Waters of Three Rivers, Erwin Child & Family Center, and doctors’ offices.
Average pay scale: $7-20 per hour.
Students in the Heavy Equipment/Conservation program study the operation, maintenance, and repair of heavy equipment. Students demonstrate skills in on-and off-road truck driving, welding, and related units.

The Machine Tool Technology program prepares students for entry-level jobs in a variety of machining occupations. Machine tools including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, cylindrical grinders, and surface grinders are used throughout the program. Students also learn to program and operate CNC lathes and CNC milling machines. The fundamentals of CAD and CAM are taught on the latest version of AutoCAD and Mastercam. Students may also complete a two to four-week internship with a local manufacturer.
