Alternative Education Program

A. Alternative Education Secondary: Certified academic teachers, affective counselors, career coaches and BOCES psychologists develop and maintain a unique and positive learning environment that fosters both academic and social/emotional growth. Integrated with Career & Technical Education, this quality driven program assures that each student participant will acquire the knowledge, skills and work habits necessary to achieve his or her career goals. Student will receive academic report cards, employability profiles and a portfolio to verify completion of their individual instruction plan.
B. Adventure Based Learning: This program uses adventure initiatives, ropes courseelements and field trips to teach character education and inter-intra personal skills. The activities are used as an experiential lab where students can learn, develop and practice these skills while meeting many of the NYS Standards.
C. Child Development Unit (CDU): Adolescent parents may bring their children to the CDU each day. The infants and toddlers received a developmental program of care from trained child care workers.
D. STAR Program (Chemung County students only): In collaboration with Chemung County STAR Program, after-school tutors are hired to assist students in the acquisition of classroom content and the completion of homework assignments. The program also includes a weekly counseling session that requires participation of parents or guardians and is run by after-school counselors.
