COMPUTER INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Year 1 Curriculum – PC Technician
Students will learn the basic concepts of computer systems and skills necessary to successful employment in the Information Technology industry. Basic computing and Internet literacy will be the focus at the beginning of the course. The remainder of the course will cover computer software and hardware architecture, with a concentration on troubleshooting, upgrades, and repair.
Earning CompTIA's A+ certification means that the individual possesses the knowledge, abilities, and customer relations skills essential for a successful entry-level computer service technician, as defined by experts from companies across the industry.
During the course, students will be provided with a foundation for achieving CompTIA's A+ computer certification.
Year 2 Curriculum – Network Technician
Students will learn to design, build, and maintain computer networks. The curriculum largely references Cisco's on-line curriculum, with topics from basic networking skills, such as pulling cable, to more complex concepts, such as applying advanced configurations and trouble shooting tools to Cisco routers and switches.
Students who have successfully completed the PC Technician course, or who have an advanced computer background will find the Network Techician course both challenging and enjoyable. This program combines instructor-led, on-line learning with hands-on laboratory exercises where students apply what they learn whole working on actual networks.
Building upon fundamentals, the course will give students a working knowledge of modern network systems. Information learned is aligned with the skills and knowledge that is presented on the CCNA and Network+ exams.
The Computer Information Technology program helps students improve math, science, writing and problem solving abilities. To ensure a well-rounded educational experience, learning objectives in the curriculum are tied to national math and science standards, as well as to workforce competencies.
