Digital Media is where photography is going...places like RIT - they don't even have a traditional darkroom for their students anymore.

You actually have better control over an image in photoshop than
you do in a darkroom.

When you are teaching and having a life and being an artist all at the same time(digital art works) because the workflow is so much faster.

I teach high school and college students, so I'm aware of what's going on in young culture and I'm constantly paying attention to what's going on in the art world in general.

It bothers me when people undervalue the arts because art is about culture and culture is who we are as human beings. There is nothing more human than to participate in the arts. When you devalue that, you're devaluing who we are as a human race.

We've really become a digital culture - a media driven culture.
(Daniel Pink) has said that the next century is going to be driven
by artists, and the new MBA is the MFA.

How much time do we spend glued to a screen: our phones, the computer, television? It's such a media rich culture, you have to train people to be able to work with it.

It is clear that the world has, and is, changing; among other things, technology is increasing at an exponential rate. The way people make art has also changed.  In addition to traditional media, artists also use the tools of the 21st century to create.  The way artists make art impacts the way art teachers teach it.  The career of Debb VanDelinder illustrates that there is no place more effective  in which to prepare young people for the technology rich 21st century than the art class room.  Schools considering cutting arts programs would be wise to take note of yet another reason why the arts in education is VITAL to a comprehensive, enriched education for young people throughout the GST BOCES region.
