GST BOCES congratulates

"Hillman, Hillman, Hillman!"

at Waverly High School

Matt Hicks of The Sayre Morning Times wrote about our featured Arts Teacher in the News, Jim Hillman, last August.  Jim is the dedicated and beloved band director at Waverly High School.   The newspaper's article began,

“Who’s the best band in all of the land?” and the chants of “Hillman” could be heard throughout the Waverly High School grounds during the last day of band camp...

This year marks Hillman’s 30th year teaching music within the Waverly Central School District. “It’s really living my dream,” admitted Hillman. Since he was a junior at Waverly High School, Hillman knew he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his former music teacher. Following four-and-a-half years of teaching in Wellsboro, an opportunity opened up. “I told my parents as a junior, one day I would be a Waverly band director,” Hillman noted. Since then, the position has brought much enjoyment into Hillman’s life. “I love working with high school kids,” said Hillman. “It’s challenging, but fun to be with them. It keeps me young.”
