GST BOCES congratulates

Eileen Reib

from Fassett Elementary School in Elmira

Mrs. Eileen Reib is the art teacher at Fassett Elementary School.  She is also a working artist.  As a teacher at Fassett,  she collaborates with the other teachers who are employed in the school.  Currently,  she is working with the music teachers and the Elementary teachers on a unit teaching students about the 1920's.  Students are learning about the government,  music students are learning about jazz,  and art students are learning about the "art deco" movement which was popular at that time.  On the day I visited,  students had created "hood ornaments" out of papier mache.  Some of these projects,  in progress are displayed below on the table in front of Mrs. Reib.  When they are completely dry,  the shapes will be spray-painted (by the teacher) either gold or silver.

 Janet Sherman

On the day I visited, artist, Janet Sherman joined the classes to work with students on collages.  Students were asked to bring in awards or items of significance to them from their homes.  The teacher had also supplied shiny papers and copies of figures and artifacts from the twenties.  Students were to paste these onto their papers in an art-deco style.
