Kathleen Foley poses with visiting artist,  John Simon

Kathleen teaches Grade 2 at Riverside Elementary.  She loves many things about teaching and is enlightened about the importance of the arts in education.  According to Kathleen,

I never get tired of the children’s curiosity and perspective of everyday things that we as adults take for granted.  And there’s nothing better than a child’s satisfied sigh of accomplishment or a genuine silly giggle. Music has always been a part of my personal life, and we are so fortunate to have grants such as BOCES funding that allow us to share the arts with the children.

Research has shown that children involved in the arts learn better and perform at a higher academic level.  That aside, arts education offers another valuable teaching tool and possibly a way to reach each learner in a different way.  What more could one ask for?

The principal of Riverside Elementary School is Carrie Rollins.  Carrie is the quiet force behind much of the outstanding Arts in Education programming at Riverside Elementary School. Without Carrie's energy and support,  Riverside students would not have an education as enriching as they do.  They are most fortunate to have teachers like Kathleen Foley and a principal such as Carrie Rollins!
