Notes for the teacher:

bullet

This quest can be used with many grade levels. For younger students, much of the work will be done together as a class.

bullet  Teacher preparation: The teacher will need to prepare cards ahead of time with pictures or drawings of different dinosaur fossils. Make two copies of each card.
bullet As an extension, have the students make model of fossils and bury them in sand. The students can then go on a dig. There are also kits available where the students can chisel at a block to find a dinosaur fossil.
bullet If you are in the Horsheads Central School District, you can contact Neva Kelly for a virtual learning experience about dinosaurs.

Dinosaur Bones (Action poem by Nancy Klein)

Let's look for bones,
dig, dig, dig.
Dinosaur bones,
big, big, big.

Back to the lab,
zip, zip, zip.
Clean the bones,
chip, chip, chip.

Put them together,
so, so, so.
We've built a dinosaur,
oh, oh, HO!

Pretend (Action poem by Nancy Klein)

Spread your arms, way out wide,
Fly like a Pteranodon, soar and glide

Bend to the floor, head down low,
Move like Stegosaurus, long ago.

Reach up tall, try to be
As tall as Apatosaurus eating on a tree.

Use your claws, grumble and growl
Just like Tyrannosaurus on the prowl.
