Math: Find the Quotient

Use MS Excel with students to set up a spreadsheet to automatically Find the Quotient

You could use the template I provided with your students or you could have them work on developing their own data table, formula to find the quotient, rounding answers, etc.  Ask Cheryl Tice to help you with this lesson if you need assistance!


Writing/Vocabulary: Flash Cards

Use ToolboxPro to create flash cards for vocabulary words for this unit (and other units).  Email Steven Smith in Outlook to get a ToolboxPro account.

Research the Rules

1.      Now that you have been at school for more than a month, perhaps you could ask the students to work in groups to evaluate the classroom rules to see how well they are working. 

If they determine change is necessary, they could work in teams to develop or improve classroom rules using Word or Publisher. 

Use Word or Publisher to develop a poster containing the new rules and consequences they developed as a group.  They should use images and color to add interest to their posters.

Or, type your rules into Word and use the REVIEWING toolbar and the SMART Board to edit them as a class collaboratively.

2.     In groups, students could look at rules for their favorite game and create a new rule or 2 to make the game more exciting, safe, fair, etc.   Use Word or Publisher to create a poster advertising the changes in the game they’d like to see.

Or students could work in groups to develop their own game based on the story they read this week or the Essential Question for the unit.  Create the game board in Publisher, or make an interactive game in PowerPoint

Use the Kidspiration diagram to help students learn Cause & Effect (could be used individually on separate computers or collaboratively with the Smart Board).

Vocabulary: Use Excel to sort vocabulary by category.  As you read the selection “At the Game” and “What Jo Did” the students can enter words under each category heading on a Smart Board or on the teacher’s computer using a projector (Words w/ Prefixes, Words w/ Suffixes, Basketball Words, Action Verbs, Adjectives…).

They can look for their vocabulary words and other words that fit the description.
