Cal-Mum Ukulele Club established in February 2005:
Please email me if you also have a school club so we can add your information to our web page.

The Cal-Mum Ukulele Club meets once a week and is open to any Cal-Mum fifth grader interested in playing the uke. During the school year, students are introduced to traditional ukulele songs played during the 20’s and 30’s, along with Hawaiian, folk songs, rock, blues, and swing. They are encouraged to try songs they are interested in. Also, many students have enjoyed writing their own lyrics and arrangements for ukulele.
With many students interested in playing the ukulele and with limited time available during the week, it requires that members be self motivated. Some past students have become very attached to their ukuleles. Parents have noted that playing past bedtime, or while watching TV, and in the car can be expected from some obsessed club members. This activity seems to have positive effects on school enjoyment noted in a recent unscientific study.
Ukuleles used by club members are usually Mahalo brand, and are purchased by members.
