The New York State Education Department has selected educators across New York State to build expertise in the teaching and administration of virtual/hybrid schools, programs and courses. We are pleased to announce that GST BOCES Curriculum Coordinator Jessica Green has been selected to join a team of leaders who will serve as VITAL educators for this program. The VITAL (Virtual Implementation of Teaching and Learning) Educator Program intends to develop a cadre of expert, or VITAL, educators who will participate in a year-long professional learning community to become expert trainers who will turnkey these ready-made materials into regional and/or online trainings to colleagues throughout the state.

As part of the VITAL Educator Program, Green will complete three modules, including Shifting to Teaching Online, Family and Community Engagement or Supporting Educators, and a specific core competency track. Green will be required to complete the train-the-trainer program, participate in focus groups to advise the state on comprehensive guidance for virtual learning and conduct a training.
Upon completion of this program, Green will receive a distinction of VITAL Trainer from NYSED and will be listed on NYSED website as approved to deliver trainings based on the TALE (Teaching Across Learning Environments) Academy resources for at least five years. Green will champion virtual learning to teachers, administrators, support staff, staff developers and educator program preparation faculty by infusing TALE resources and SEL curriculum into virtual courses. Green also will develop and/or expand virtual learning programs, ensure virtual-only learners have necessary supports in place and advocate for virtual instruction to become a pre-service requirement for teachers.
