Collaboration in the Tech World

Watkins Glen High School has a Dell TechCrew club for High School Students. The club is for high school students who have an interest in computer technology. There are many activities for students to do in tech club from handing out and collecting devices, troubleshooting problems, assisting staff and students with computer and classroom technologies.  Some of our students go on to work through Dell to gain certification in Dell computer repair. This is the same industry certification that all certified technicians acquire to work on Dell computers.  It is a lot of study and takes time and dedication.

This week, Gabe, a sophomore at Watkins Glen High School and certified Dell technician, took a computer that a student had dropped in the snow and would no longer power on and began troubleshooting power issues. After testing, he found that the motherboard was the problem. This was the first time Gabe worked on the inside of this model laptop. With the support of GST BOCES technician, Noah Gardner, Gabe disassembled the laptop, replaced the motherboard from the same model laptop that had a shattered screen and repaired the laptop. The best part for me as the Watkins Glen TechCrew advisor, was watching a student and technician work together. The joy and excitement on Gabe's face when they reset the bios and the computer turned on and was working was beyond amazing.  It is why we do what we do! #PROUDTOBEGST
