The GST BOCES Wildwood Campus was busy this past week as it welcomed 43 professionals for their Seniors Workforce Readiness Phase 2 event. In conjunction with the Career Development Council, and the wonderful Wildwood team we launched this new program.
This Professional Readiness event is a workshop to enhance our students interview and communication skills. We are focused on professionalism and that all important “First Impression.” In Phase 1 - the students worked on their career research and resumes.
Now in Phase 2 - Our presenters will join with the educators to continue enhancing the student’s business communication skills. Meeting professionals from outside the campus is a critical step in building self-confidence and self-awareness. The past two years there was less opportunity to engage in face-to-face communication. Increasing our student skills in; How to shake someone’s hand, How to make eye contact, How to introduce themselves and How to start and have a conversation with someone they just met is an important step. And must have skills in the workforce.
In Phase 3 - we will continue to work with our Seniors on resumes and interviewing development.

Congratulations to Deb Lynch, GST BOCES Career Development Council Career Specialist, who was awarded a Partners in Education Career Achievement Award by the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce on December 7, 2022.
Deb has worked at the CDC for more than 20 years in support of career readiness and career exploration experiences for area students by making connections with local businesses. She served as the coordinator of the Business Careers Day at Elmira College and STEM Day at SUNY Corning Community College this fall.
Deb, lead school representative for the Horseheads Central School District, was nominated by Horseheads Superintendent Dr. Tom Douglas.
