New Visions students in the Bush Campus Chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), attended the NYS Leadership Conference March 18-20. The group brought home 8 Gold medals and 5 Silver medals for their STAR event projects. Eight students, along with their advisor-Kelly Smith, will represent NYS at the National Leadership Conference in Washington, DC in July, including Jacqueline Mayotte who submitted an online project and ranked in the top 20 of the nation, earning her a spot at nationals as well. This week, about 20 of our team members rolled up their sleeves and learned how to adapt toys so they can be activated with a switch—opening the door to play for students who can’t use traditional push‑button toys.
Huge thanks to Cornell Assistive Technologies, who guided us through every step, provided all the materials, and even sent us home with the toys we adapted! Their team also brought along several prototype adapted grasps for writing utensils, giving us the chance to try them out and offer feedback.
This collaboration has been such a meaningful partnership—one that’s already making a difference in accessibility, creativity, and student engagement. 💡💛

✨ Our day kicked off with an inspiring keynote from award‑winning mental health advocate Ross Szabo, setting a powerful tone for meaningful conversations and collaboration.

A huge thank you to Garrett Wilson of G.P. Wilson for spending the day with our Coopers Campus Heavy Equipment students! Garrett not only shared valuable real‑world knowledge about crane operation, but also helped set up an incredible hands‑on learning experience thanks to Swarthout Recycling, who generously provided a crane for the day.
