A huge thank you to Garrett Wilson of G.P. Wilson for spending the day with our Coopers Campus Heavy Equipment students! Garrett not only shared valuable real‑world knowledge about crane operation, but also helped set up an incredible hands‑on learning experience thanks to Swarthout Recycling, who generously provided a crane for the day.
Our students had the chance to explore a career path they rarely get to see inside the classroom. Even better—they were able to put their new skills into action right away. 🚜 Steuben County 4‑H Tractor Safety Course at GST BOCES! 🚜
We’re excited to host the Steuben County 4-H Tractor Safety Course right here at our Coopers Campus (Building 2 and outdoor training area)! This course is led by Mr. Fodge, with additional guidance from guest speakers and an instructor from Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE).
This hands-on program is designed to build real-world skills while keeping farm safety awareness front and center.
✨ Why This Course Matters
Successful completion of both the classroom and driving portions provides Tractor and Machinery Certification for youth 14 years and older.
This certification legally allows youth 14+ to operate tractors and machinery off their family farm—a valuable credential for anyone interested in agriculture or farm-related work!
📅 Eligibility Requirements
To participate, youth must:

✔️ Be enrolled in Steuben County 4‑H

Students in the New Visions program and members of the Bush Campus Chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) are making a real impact in their community. With support from the Community Foundation and contributions through GoFundMe, Carter Smith and Mackenzie Chamberlain led a project focused on meeting the needs of local human service agencies. The students purchased goods after raising funds and being awarded a Community Foundation grant that totaled $2000.00. Their efforts didn’t stop there: they also teamed up with fellow FCCLA members to collect canned goods for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.
